1968年にわずか3号のみ刊行された写真同人誌「PROVOKE」。戦後を代表する日本の写真家や詩人により創刊。写真表現における批評性は国内外でセンセーショナルに受けとめられ、革命の機運や政治色が非常に強かった時代背景を象徴していると評されています。
「PROVOKE」was experimental photograph magazine published in 1968 by group of Japanese post war photographers, poet and critics. The magazine made an sensational impact among photographic world and outer society with its critical approach in photographic expression at the era, the time of revolution, protest and politics.
現在、非常に入手困難で高価になっていたPROVOKEですが、完全復刻版がリリースされることになり、弊社で印刷を担当させて頂きました。
It has been very difficult to find the original copy of the magazine for long time, however thanks to the publisher, Nitesha, it is now available at reasonable cost for everyone as perfect reprints!It was our great honor to be in charge of printing for this project.

〜弊社玉川工場での印刷立会いの様子
今回の仕事は半世紀前に発行された現存オリジナル版を弊社でスキャニングするところから。PROVOKEは2001年にドイツのシュタイデル社により、原本複写による「リニューアル版」が出版されています。ただし、製本時の断裁によりオリジナルの写真が３方向3mmカットされている仕様になっています。
今回は、サイズも原本により忠実に仕上げるために製本時に断ち切られた3mm部分をデータ上で不自然に見えないように再現する（描き足す）という難易度の高い工程が必要に。
また、原稿のスキャン時に避けられないのがモアレとの闘いです。焦点をぼかしたスキャン、不自然に見えないシャープネス処理など、弊社の熟練スキャナー・製版オペレーター陣が巧みの技を駆使してモアレを排除しています。
３冊ともにスミ・グレーのダブルトーンで設計し、とにかく原本に忠実な印刷を心がけています。
So what we have to do first was to scan original copy of 50 years old ago. To keep its original size, we actually added and reproduce 3mm of extra part of photographs that had been cropped in bookbinding process. Furthermore, moire is unavoidable when print copy get scanned. Our skilled operators successfully beat moire by using very sensitive “you can not see” out-of-focus and sharpness effect.
Three issues are all printed in Black and Grey duotone, our goal as printer this time was making this reprints close to the original at our all cost.
